I went to Taipei two wks ago for a few days by myself, really liked it, so I%26#39;ve convinced my parents and sis to go for a 4-day trip over Chinese New Year. Pls take a look at itin and advise if places we want to visit will be closed / too quiet / way too crowded during the lunar holidays -
Sun 25th, Lunar 30th: (arrives 13:00)
1. Dihua market
2. 101, Xinyi Mitsukoshi area
3. Gongguan and Shida night markets
Mon 26th, Lunar 1st:
1. Shi-fen
2. Jiu-fen
3. Fu-xing Sogo (for the Ding Tai Fung, I figured we could shop while we wait..)
4. Dun-nan Eslite
Tue 27th, Lunar 2nd
1. Palace Museum for them, MOCA for me
2. Danshui, Bali
3. CKS Memorial grounds
Wed 28th, Lunar 3rd (departs 16:30)
1. Ximending
We%26#39;re staying at Les Suites CC. Any suggestions are welcome, we%26#39;re not big spa fans and are from hongkong, so not too keen to shop til we drop. :)
Also, any recommendation for a good Taiwanese sit-down restaurant on Tue night, about US$20/head?

Hi,
Sun 25th, Lunar 30th: (arrives 13:00)
1. Dihua market %26lt;--- This will be very crowded , but fun
2. 101, Xinyi Mitsukoshi area
3. Gongguan and Shida night markets %26lt;-- This will be very crowded , but fun
Tue 27th, Lunar 2nd
1. Palace Museum for them, MOCA for me

I think the plan of Tue 27th will be a little bit tight. because Danshui and Bali will cost you at least half day.
But, it is still feasible ^^,
There are a lot of restaurant in Danshu and Bali, thery should be good.
Regards,

^ Yeh, I plan to spend a good portion of the day in DanShui and BaLi, so I won%26#39;t be visiting the CSK halls during opening hours, just taking a look at the grounds at night-time.
Will the food stalls in Dan Shui be open on that day? How about the stalls in Jiu Fen?
may i know what%26#39;s the easiest way to go from Taipei ti Shi-Fen, then from Shi-Fen to Jiu-Fen? i went to Jiu-Fen from Taipei by bus last time and it was quite convenient, but not sure how to get to Shi-Fen. thnks!
also will both places be closed on Chinese New Year (Jan 26th)?
Hi,
From Taipei to Shi-Fen,
You could take train in Taipei and get off the train at Rui-fang or Hou-dong. and then take Ping-xi line train to Shi-Fen.
I think Shi-Fen and Jiu-Fen will still open during Chinese New Year.
Hope this help.
Les Suites CC is a very nice Hotel to stay especially it located in the very central area of Taipei. All the oversea visitors from my company all stayed there. Everyone like this hotel.
I would recommend Shinyeh taiwanese restaurant but it might over your budget just a little... depends on what dish you order.. The restaurant is just 10 minutes walk from Sogo fuxing branch...
And you can walk back to hotel if you wish to
Just a reminder, Shifen waterfall is closed indefinitely, but the scenic area that it%26#39;s located in is still open to the public.

If you guys like Peking duck, I highly recommend the restaurant %26#39;Celestial%26#39; located on the 3F of the Hotel Royal Taipei near the MRT Zhongshan station. We got there at 5:30 %26amp; the even though they don%26#39;t serve their duck until 6:00, it was already packed around 5:35. If you guys decide on this place, a reservation would probably save alot of time!
It was also strongly recommended by ';hungry girl'; (how I initially found this place): hungryintaipei.blogspot.com/search鈥?/a>
calicocat, thanks for the heads-up regarding Shi-Fen. how much time would you recommend us to spend in PingShi, are most of the sights within walking distance like Jiu-Fen?
dettori88, is there a website for the Shinyeh restaurant?
wbird, thanks for the recommendation!
Here is the web of Shin yeh

But only in chinese,
But don%26#39;t worry, in the restaurant, the menu has been designed with international customers in mind: Clearly-priced items are described in Chinese, English, and Japanese; there are pictures of the most popular items. Dishes are presented according to color and cooking style, enhancing an already delightful dining experience.
Jiufen, which is high on a hill, is not within walking distance of Pingshi. Once you alight the train (from Taipei) at Rueifang, you have two choices:
1) Exit the station and take the bus to Jiufen and Jinguashih, approx. 20 min. away
or
2) Stay inside the station and transfer to the Pingshi Old Rail Line (a tourist line), which starts at Rueifang (sometimes at Badu, before Rueifang) and ends at Jingtong. Pingshi and Shifen are along this line.
How much time to spend in Pingshi, alas, is not dictated by my suggestion, but by the train schedule, ';synchronized'; to give tourists adequate time at each stop. It%26#39;s based on a travel plan making Jingtong the first stop and Rueifang the last. The amount of time suggested by the Pingshi website (Pingshi old street - 1 hr.) is rather generous, but it is a tourism promotion site, after all.

To check the schedule for your travel date, pls go to

From: Taipei / Rueifang
To: Pinghsi Line / Pingsi
Train Type: Ordinary
More important than the schedule out of Rueifang is the schedule to get back to Rueifang; as you can see, the later it gets, the fewer trains there are!
