24-hour layover at TPE

I have a 24 layover during my return to the states. We arrive around 4pm and depart about the same time the next day. My friends and I have already booked a room at the Ambassador. Any recommendations on the best way to get to/from our hotel? Furthermore, can anyone recommend an activity for our short stay there. We are looking for something to do or nice places to see after we checkin the hotel, something fun for nightlife, and possibly a halfday activity the next morning before our flight home. We have a very short time in taiwan and would like to make the best of it. Please advise. Thanks in advance!

The DaYo (Toward You) Airbus stops at the Ambassador Taipei; the ride should take just over an hour.

What to do depends on your age and tastes: Shilin Night Market (there are 2 sections, the food building %26amp; the sprawling street stalls across from it), Ximending (youth hub), and Taipei 101 (89th fl. observatory, shopping area) are north, south and east, respectively, of the Ambassador, about a 20-min. taxi ride. (Taipei 101 is about a 20~30-min. ride.)
