Good eats near One Star Hotel chongquing ?

Hi. Can taiwan experts recommend me a yummy eating place at the OneStar Chongquing South Road Area? will be arriving at the place around 11 am and planning to proceed straight to National palace Museum after some quick lunch. Understand the museum is open only upto 5pm. Thanks.

Good eats near One Star Hotel chongquing ?

Early Dec.08 during staying there, I had tried the Taoyuan Street Beef Noodle ---- good taste but many people, better choose the off peak hour. Beside this shop is also a famous pau shop, can try their meat pau and taosha pau. You can ask the hotel provide you nearby hotel map and you can ask the people when around Taoyuan Street the famous beef noodle shop.

There is another shop 娲斧鐖剁墰鑲夐旱 very near to the hotel and was awarded best beef noodle at Taipei for year 2007 if not mistaken, haven%26#39;t tried yet.

Sorry, we did try the 楫浠?just beside the hotel, not bad. http://www.meetfresh.com.tw/about.htm

Can try.

Hi,

If you%26#39;re not squeamish about rather dingy-looking hole-in-the-wall sidewalk eateries, there%26#39;s a famous pig knuckle rice eatery (in business for 50 years) located at 22 Yenping S. Rd. (where Yenping S. meets BoAi Rd., across from the Main Post Office). Closed Sundays.

If you%26#39;re headed in the direction of Taipei Station, there%26#39;s a food court in the basement level of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Dept. Store, just outside MRT Taipei Main Station.

Probably too much walking if you%26#39;re in a rush to get to the museum, but you can try on another day:

Emperor Foods is well-known for Taiwanese-style pork chops. Exit hotel, walk south on Chongqing S., cross Kaifeng St. and Hankou St., Wuchang St. and Yuanling St., then turn right on Hengyang Rd. Add.: No. 37 Hengyang Rd. They have several stores in Taipei.

Taipei, Taiwan Food suggestions?

Hi all,

We are going to Taipei for New Year holiday and was hoping to get some suggestions for good restaurants.

We are big fans of quality food - all types, but are traveling with kids. Does anyone have suggestions for good family friendly restaurants? Even good dessert shops.

We know about Din Tai Fung - love the dumplings! But are looking for other suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

I love the %26#39;Ah Zhong Mian Xian (Oamisua)%26#39; i think that one should try.. u can get it at the shilin NM or at ximenting...

and another must try food will be the %26#39;Lu Rou Fan%26#39; especially the one from %26#39;Hu Xu Zhang%26#39;, somewhere near %26#39;Wu Fen Pu%26#39;!! It is actually minced meat with rice and it taste soooooo nice!!

Thanks

hey, i found this blog about food in taipei

hope this helpful

http://hungryintaipei.blogspot.com/

Cheers =)

Among the restaurants listed on the Food %26amp; Dining thread, a few deserve a special mention for quality food: Shanghai Shanghai @ Shin Kong Mitsukoshi A9; Wakin%26#39;s Kitchen; Shin Yeh @ Taipei 101; Bayphonetown @ Living Mall; Wang Ji rice dumplings; Taoyuan St. beef noodles; Chi Chia Chuang Chicken Rice Changchun Rd. location; and Uncle John; and Dragon Restaurant.

For Western baked goods, Ellie Patisserie on Lane 300 RenAi Rd. Sec. 4 (behind Cathay Hospital) http://www.ellie.com.tw/ (the RenAi location is preferable). Cash only.

If you want to try a Taiwanese-style cake, get a fresh cream cake, strawberry flavor, from Hong Yeh (Red Leaf), at No. 26~5 RenAi Rd. Sec. 3. Since they are mainly a cake shop and not a regular bakery, you may need to order in advance if you want a particular kind of cake.

Just to remind you: The chef of Lotus Garden is no longer employed there, so I can%26#39;t recommend it any longer.

Enjoy the food in Taipei!

    hi all

thank u for such great feedback on this forum. i will be travelling to taiwan from 24 till 31 dec.

thank for all the info with mr lu, i have manage to book mr lu to bring me around on 26 and 27 dec. generally how long is his day trip (from what time till wat time)?

cos my mum was planning to book the 1030am tze chiang train from taipei to hualien which mean we will only reach by noon time. also she want to check in to the hotel before heading to the day trip. is it feasible? we are staying at C%26#39;est Jeune hotel.

should i get mr lu to pick me at the train station or at the hotel?

    haulien trip with Mr lu

    Hi there,

Most cabbie tours start at 10:00~10:30 and end at 5:00~6:00. Do take into consideration when planning that it gets dark at 5PM in the winter months. I think that Mr. Lu would be able to offer you the best advice for your itinerary; you may want to give him a call in the evening, when he%26#39;ll have already finished his day%26#39;s work.

    Happy planning~

    haulien trip with Mr lu

    Hi,

When I was at Hualien 2 weeks ago, we engaged Mr Lu%26#39;s service too. :) Basically he can start any time you want and ends only when you are tired out. For our case, we started the day at 8.30am, after the sumptous breakfast at the minsu and ended the evening about 7pm. As for tranport to and from the train station, its more like a complimentary service since we have him for 2 days. :)

hi thank for the reply... think will try to book a much earlier train to hualien... plan to contact mr lu when i get there (has msg him 2 days ago)

now worried if i can still get tickets online... will have totry tomorrow early morning

Need recommendation on Lu Shan hotspring

    Hi,

We will be staying at Cing Jing for 3D2N as part of our travel itinerary end of this Dec. We plan to go to Lu shan for a 2-3hr relaxing hot spring bath during that period.

I would like to seek some advice/recommendation which resort/hot spring location to go for. We prefer to have a private outdoor pool where we can enjoy the scenery as well.

Also, how should we travel from Cing Jing to Lu Shan and roughly how long and how much?

    Taichung questions

    Hi,

Can I check if I want to go to SML to Fuguangshan in Changhua, how should I go about doing it?

Should I take bus from SML to taichung train station and take train to Changhua? What is the bus that I can take to taichung train station from SML and how long does it take? And do I need to book the train tickets in advance or can I buy it on the day itself? I%26#39;m travelling on 1st of Jan. And how much does it cost?

I read up Fuguangshan is very near from Changhua train station, is there a bus reaching there? Or should I just take a taxi from the train station?

Roughly how long should i cater for Fuguangshan?

Any other interesting areas to cover near Fuguangshan?

    Alishan:

I think that your minsu owner would be the best person to give you directions on how to go there by bus---you may even ask if they can pick you up at the bus stop if necessary.

    Taipei:

The MRT will still be running, so you will be able to get back to your hotel after the concert.

Dec. 31 - Better to do Din Tai Fung before heading out to Eslite and the Taipei 101 area, because as evening approaches, more and more people will be taking the MRT to that area.

Jan. 1 - Yangmingshan on New Year%26#39;s Day will probably be packed with people!

BTW, Jan. 1 %26amp; 2 are holidays, which means it%26#39;ll be a 4-day weekend. Be prepared to fight for your right to party, for booking hotels and transporation may turn out to be quite a challenge.

Can I visit YMS and Beitou on 1st day of CNY?

    Hello,

I%26#39;ll be in taipei from 22 Jan 09 to 27 Jan 09. I%26#39;m aware that shops are close on the 1st and 2nd day of Chinese New Year thus I planned to go Yang Ming Shan and Beitou on the 1st of CNY. Is it advisable to do that? I mean, are the tourist attractions open for view on that day??

I read from the forum that shops close ard 6.30pm on the eve of CNY, what abt the nightmarkets and restaurants??

I%26#39;m quite worried that my family%26#39;s reunion dinner will be cupnoodles in the hotel (-A- ;)

    Please help me out!!

    Many x 100 thanks!! hees.

Can I visit YMS and Beitou on 1st day of CNY?

Not all shops close; hotels, hot springs, and most restaurants will still be open for business. With Taiwan mired in an economic recession, many restaurants are banking on the Chinese New Year dine-out crowd. Also, Taiwan government will be handing out food stamps to all citizens on 01/18, so you can bet the restaurants will be open on New Years with all sorts of promotions trying to get a share of the pie.

Can I visit YMS and Beitou on 1st day of CNY?

Oops, my bad, the government is not handing out food stamps, but ';consumption coupons'; (basically just an euphemism for food stamps).

Anyway, I am sure there will be plenty of businesses open in Beitou during the New Years. YMS may be a different story. There are few vendors in YMS, and most are small mom-and-pop stores. If you visit YMS, your choices of food may be limited.

some restaurants would be closed, some not , on NY%26#39;s eve.If u%26#39;re banging on a reunion dinner, then u have to make reservations early, the popular restaurants usually sell out by end of year.Otherwise, no need for cup noodles, u could always eat out at the good old McDonalds n Kentucky.

i see.. Thanks for the replies!!

  • 1 Day trip from Taipei to Taroko - Is it possible

As stated in title, I am planning to stay at Taipei and take a 1 day trip from Taipei to Taroko which is located at Hualian. Is it possible?

I don%26#39;t plan to move to Hualian because I am not on backpacking so moving the luggage around could be tiring and troublesome...Just 2 middle size for 2 of us.

If there is really not possible...what is other travel itineray and accomodation that you will suggest for a 2 days 1 night trip at Taroko?

Needs this information urgently. Thanks for the help in advance!

1 Day trip from Taipei to Taroko - Is it possible

    Hi,

    Welcome to the forum.

    A discussion on the topic:

    tripadvisor.com/鈥?788572

1 Day trip from Taipei to Taroko - Is it possible

Yes, it can be done. Arrive in Hualien by 10:30AM, tour Taroko by cab, then take the train back to Taipei in the early evening. The Tze Chiang train takes about 3 hrs.; Tze Chiang Taroko takes about 2 hrs.

    http://163.29.3.98/TWRail_en//index.aspx

On the drop menu, select ';Taipei/Taipei'; and ';Hua-lien/Hualien';, meaning Taipei area, Taipei Station and Hualien area, Hualien Station. Tze Chiang Taroko is indicated by the two green triangles.

    hi all,

Thanks for the fast reply. Really appreciate it.

I have further questions regards to my topic.

    1) When i check the train schedule, I believe this is the tze ching taroko, but it says Shulin to Hualian, when is shulin? Is it near Taipei?

    Tze Chiang 1091 -- Shulin To Hualien 08:00 10:08 2h 8m

    2) After arriving at the Hualian train station, how long does it take to reach taroko if taking a cab?

    3) As for the traing going back from Hualian to Taipei, I found following 2 options. Will taking the 5:40pm train back to Taipei gives me enough time to tour Taroko? 2nd option gives me more time but i know now is winter so probably it is useless to stay beyond 5pm at Taroko. What would be your advise?

Tze Chiang 1089 Mout Hualien To Yuanlin 17:40 19:51

    Tze Chiang 1096 -- Hualien To Shulin 19:30 21:45 2h 15m

    4) What do i lose by not staying overnight at Taroko? E.g Sunrise?

Appreciate your fast response as i am traveling next week and now trying to firm up my hotel booking (which is quite late too) :(

Anyone could help me with above questions?

    Hi,

I asked almost the same question in another thread.

I should be taking the 8-10 1091 train to hualien and the 1725 train to jiaosi hot spring.

According to the experts, taroko needs one day. But some of my friends who have been there have said that although it will be rushed, but its still do-able, perhaps missing out on the most far sites. I booked Mr Lu Lai Fu though.

    :) Hope this helps.

I did this tour since I was traveling solo. It%26#39;s with a tour bus and a flight (Taipei-Hualien) and a return train ride back to Taipei:

    www.havefuntravel.tw/show_hotel_lobby_09.asp

Glad you bumped up your post.

    1) That%26#39;s right, when you check the timetable, it will show the departure station and final station of the train---Taipei being only one of the stops along the route. (Click on the train no. to see the entire list of stations.) It%26#39;s important to be aware of the final destination, because when your train to Hualien arrives in Taipei, they will announce ';train to Taitung'; or wherever its final destination is, and not ';train to Hualien';. Same for the train back to Taipei---if its final destination is not Taipei, they will not announce ';train to Taipei'; but rather ';train to Shulin';, etc.

    2) It takes about 20~25 min. to reach Taroko by cab from Hualien Station.

    3) That%26#39;s right about it getting dark at 5PM in the winter. Since everyone will be thinking the same thing, tickets on the dusk train will be a hot item. :)

    4) People who stay overnight in Hualien have time to relax and play with firecrackers, experience a minsu stay, visit Farglory Ocean Park, and go cycling, among other things. In other words, one day for the mountains and one day for the sea---you get to see both sides of Hualien.

Thanks a lot for all the reply.

I will do it in 1 day from Taipei without staying at Hualien. I am going there tomorrow. I am already in Taipei now :)

Anyone has contact of Mr Lu Bai Fu or any other cab driver?

How much is the fare for taxi if i book the driver to bring me to taroko, bring me tour taroke and send me back to the station? i.e book the cab driver for about a day.

    Thanks.

Itenary for 7 days in Taiwan

    Hi all,

I am from Malaysia and I plan to have a DIY trip to Taiwan. I%26#39;ve never been to Taiwan before and I have a plan to travel there around May 2009.

There are many questions in my mind about the place so here it goes:

    1) 1st day at Taipei

I most probably starting my trip at Taipei since the airport for international flight landed there. I plan to go to 士林 Night Market. Therefor, I will need to spend my 1st night at Taipei, any 民舍 to recommend there?

    2) 2nd day at Taipei

I will most probably strolling around Taipei City, 101大楼, shopping mall and eating around.

    3) 3rd day - 淡水 or 基隆港 ?

Please suggest this as I do not have any idea about how this 2 place will be, some friends says 淡水 would be a better choice. Maybe spend a night here also. Need help here...

    4) 4th day - If I happens to be at 淡水, I might travel to 八里 as well... spend another night there.

    Any suggestion.

    5) 5th day - Will travel to 八里?

Any suggestion on this. Any place of interest? I think I will spend half a day here and head back to 台南 or maybe 高雄.

    6) 6th day - Heading back to Taipei for departure.

    Any suggestion on this.

I am interested in taking photo and outdoor. Shopping is not actually my stuff so I will need a lot of suggestion on places of interest for nature lover, like 农场, 自然保护区。。。

    Please help..

    Thank,

    Si Hao

Itenary for 7 days in Taiwan

Check out this thread as planning reference:

    tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g293910-i9303-k587…

Check out the following site for farm stay. I%26#39;ve been to Ching Jing Farm and the view is really great. However you have 6 days 5 nights, I doubt you will have time to experience farm stay. Most probably you only have time to cover places in Taipei, Northeast of Taipei (Yehliu, Jiufen etc) and Taroko Gorge at Hualien.

    Farmstay site:

    taiwan-farming.org.tw/FarmingSocietyWebsite/…

Itenary for 7 days in Taiwan

yes, been chatting with one of my friend which has experience in Taiwan.

    His suggestion:

    3 days in Taipei 台北

    3 days in Tainan 台南

    1 day buffer for traveling.

The 3 days in Taipei should be covering 淡江, 士林 and 渔人码头。

3 days in Tainan should be covering 高雄 and 垦丁.

    What say you.

If I undersand you correctly, you plan to cover Tainan, 高雄 and 垦丁 for the 3 days you have allocated? Personally I think it is very rush.

Kenting is further south from Kaohsiung, if not mistaken travel time is about 3 hours by bus. You will spend most of your time travelling rather than enjoying the view or the places. Unless you plan to extend your stay, say 10 days or more.

On my first DIY trip to Taiwan, I spent about 14 days and managed to do a round an island trip but feels a bit rush. We didn%26#39;t managed to cover Northeast Taipei (Yehliu, Jiufen etc) due to the weather. Of course we do quite a bit of shopping ;oD Our main transport at that time is via train.

I see, so my allocation of 7 days cannot cover as much place as I has stated.

    Hmm.. let me reschedule...

Btw, If in Taipei, any place of interest that is in ';must not missed'; list? haha

We are planning to travel in a small group of 4... so my plan is to get a rented car to do the travelling... preferably at night to save some time.

Refer to the itinerary thread I posted earlier on to get some idea. Feel free to ask if you have further question. All the travel experts here will be glad to help you.

Oh...forgotten..for places to stay, if you plan to stay at Ximending, refer to the following thread:

    Fong Jia N.M

    Hi all,

Anyone can advice where is Fong Jia Night Market? How to get there from XMD?

    Thanks In Advance!

    Fong Jia N.M

First Leg: From XMD %26gt; Taichung HSR Station

Board a MRT train at Ximen Station to Taipei Main Station, one station away. Fare: NT$20 Travel time: About 3 mins. Walk to Taipei HSR Station in the same underground complex and board a HSR train to Taichung HSR Station in Wurih Township.

Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR): http://www.thsrc.com.tw

Map showing location of Taipei Main Station: home.trtc.com.tw/INFO92/Lmap.asp?SID=051

Second Leg: From Taichung HSR Station %26gt; Fengjia Night Market (逢甲夜市)

Board Renyou bus 125 at Taichung HSR Station. The bus heads to Renyou bus station near Taichung Railway Station in downtown Taichung before heading to Fengjia Night Market so it’s a longer journey.

    Renyou bus 125 (龍井-台中車站-僑光技術學院): http://www.rybus.com.tw/lines_125.html

Alternative: Board free shuttle bus (see below) to “Chaoma” (朝馬轉運站) stop and transfer to Renyou (仁友客運) bus 37, Quan Hang (全航) bus 5 or a cab to Fengjia Night market. Cab fare: About NT$100

    Quan Hang bus 5 (干城車站 →僑光技術學院): http://203.70.117.180/citybus/

“Chaoma” (朝馬轉運站) stop is nearer to Fengjia night market than Taichung Railway Station.

    One Day Taroko Gorge Tour...Help!

    Hi,

Price shown in the Taiwan Tour Bus website is NT988 departing from Hualien %26amp; NT1988 departing from Taipei

    My qn is:

1.) how much is the train ticket to Hualien?

Is the round trip train ticket abt NT1000?

i read from a thread in here that we can also go to Hualien %26amp; bargain with the taxi drivers over there to take us on a day tour like what the tour buses do

2.) so how much will it cost as there are only 2 of us going %26amp; will a cabbie be better than a tuor bus?

    Thanks in advance!

    One Day Taroko Gorge Tour...Help!

    Hi,

A one-way Tze Chiang train ticket from Taipei to Hualien costs about NT448.

A private cabbie tour is preferred by most forumers, who usually engage the services of a Mr. Lu (Looi) Lai Fu (who drives a sedan) or a Mr. Chen Guang Fa (who drives an MPV). They charge NT2000~2500 for a full-day tour of Taroko Gorge and the Hualien area.

    tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g293913-i9546-k667鈥?/a>

Please note, a Mr. Pong, mentioned in the above thread, recently received a not-so-great review.

    Hi calicocat,

    Appreciate your reply!

After some calculation, it seems that hiring a cabbie seems to be more value for money

    Thanks!

Can i ask how long is the trian journey from Taipei to Hualien? Can we buy tics online?

Hi there, train tix to Hualien web: http://railway.hinet.net/

you may check rates and book from here :) journey from taipei to hualien is approx 3hr :)

for 2 persons, it depends on you guys....if u can bargain well, maybe worth getting cab...if not, advise on tour coaches...cos ususally 4 persons share cab will be much cheaper :)

Oh thks! Hmmm can we buy tics anytime? Cos i remb readin somewhr can only book 3 days in advance?

    zbi,

Thanks for the link for the rail tickets on-line. However, I tried the english version and tried to check train schedule etc. There does not seem to have info on child ticket prices. Are kids%26#39; tickets cheaper?

I have read the thread on tickets: after booking on line (office hours only) one must pick up the tickets within 3 days; from post offices or the stations.

    Hi Brownchaven...

2 ways ticket from Taipei -%26gt; Hualian -%26gt; Taipei is NT802 per person.

I would suggest that you take a cab there. The cab is NT2000 per car and i would suggest Mr. Zhuang who drive a Toyota Altis. Very nice and comfortable car. He also very knowledgeable on Taroko. The car no plate is 936-LK.

He also bring us to all the famous food in Hualian.

The suggest train time is 7:08 from taipei and 7:30 from hualian

Train ticket could not be buy online. But you can book it online to secure your sits. The booking 3 days means that you have to collect the ticket within 3 days after you have place your booking

Hi GasmanPenang, in answer to your question ';can we buy tics any time';----yes, you can buy at the window if you wish, but the earlier you book, the better the chances of getting seats that are together. As mentioned by Siong, this is only a booking of seats and not a purchase; and the deadline of ';3 days'; includes the day of booking itself.

    car rental

    hi all,

Need some help urgently with this. We are unable to get a international driving license as we don%26#39;t reside in home country Singapore now. We want to rent a car in Taiwan but wonder if the rental companies are all strict to see the international driving license?

    car rental

    Hi,

Usually, the rental companies will check the driving license. They do the check to us,too.

I think they don%26#39;t want to take any risk to see any issue.

But, I think you could still ask your rental companies to see what they will do.

    Regards,

    car rental

the big companies would want to have a photo copy of your international license. In your case, you may want to call up the Singapore embassy in Bangkok and see what they can do.

    Hello,

How do I go about making payment to accomodation in Alishan? Many of them uses 匯款.

I am from Singapore, how do i 匯款?

If I dont book any rooms in advance for my trip on 1st March - 2nd March 09 to Alishan, will there be a risk that I cannot get a room?

    Thank you.

    Alishan

When the hotels speak of a wire transfer, they are referring to a transfer from the Taiwan Post Office or one of the local banks. I don%26#39;t think they take foreign wire transfers.

03/01 is a Sunday, so there should be less overnight visitors as people return to work. If you book your hotel first thing after arrival from a Taipei tourist agency, you should be able to secure a room.

    Alishan

Hi! I%26#39;m Singaporean too. All my hotel bookings in Taiwan (SML, Alisan, Taipei...etc) don%26#39;t require me to make advance payment or deposit cos they know I%26#39;m not local. Everything is based on trust. ^^

Hi neuross, may i know which place are you staying in Alishan and SML?

How much are they quoting you?

Did you sign up any package like see the sun rise or tour around Alishan with the place you staying with?

    Hi,

When the cherry blossom is starting on 15th March 09, does that means if I reach on 1st March , i will not be able to see the cherry blossom?

I%26#39;m going end of Feb next yr. ^^ I%26#39;ve booked at Xin Xin Minsu. The cheapest room is NT800 per night I think but I booked the NT1,200 per night room. It%26#39;s 3-5mins walk from Alisan train station I heard.

Oh! Just realised i%26#39;ll be staying at Alisan from 1-3 March. We might bump into each other. Hahaha.... Not sure if we will be lucky to see cherry blossom there but I%26#39;m crossing my fingers as well. :P

The annual cherry blossom in Alishan is usually held from 15 March to 15 April. You will see cherry blossom if you arrive on 1 March but probably not at its full bloom. Best spots in Alishan would be Alishan Police Station, Alishan Guest House and Alishan Work Station.

Need help to locate an address!!!

If you have the number, and knows the person living there, why don%26#39;t you just call the number and ask the owner for the address instead?

Need help to locate an address!!!

Hi i have tried to call but nobody there. Im helping my relative (old lady) to find her relatives in taipei as they have lost touch. My relative would like to send something to them and visit them again if possible but she has lost their address. She could only remember that they stay somewhere near to Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. I am wondering whether i can search online phonebook or thru their operator to get those info.

Need help to locate an address!!!

operator unlikely to disclose an address from phone number, but u could call n ask if that number has been changed which would explain why nobody picked up.In that case, they would give u the new number.

This happened sometime last year, some guy who was dumped by his girlfriend called the cell company and somehow got the operator to disclose the girl%26#39;s new address to him. He subsequently ambushed the girl at her place and killed her.

That is why opartors are nervous about discosing too much, for they could be held jointly liable for the crime.

Yuchih Township in Nantou County (南投縣魚池鄉) near Sun Moon Lake; and

Gueishan Township in Taoyuan County (桃園縣龜山鄉)

There may be some more temples of the same name in other locations. It is easier to locate if you know the full address or at least the name of the town or county.

    Hi,

There are a lot of hotspring resorts in Wulai.

But I don%26#39;t know which one is the best.

Maybe someone will reply to you.

The cost depends on the level of the hotsprings.

The range of the cost is large.

But I think if you just want to have hotspring for 1 or 2 hrs. I think the price should be within 1000 NTD per person. (I think 1000 NTD for 1 or 2 hrs hotspring is expensive ^^';)

I think one or half day in Danshui are both good.

    It depends on you.

    More time, more relax.

    Regards,

Sorry, can鈥檛 help you on Tu Yao Ji and prawns cooked on hot stones.

There are many hot spring resorts in Wulai. Some hot spring resorts in Wulai popular with forumers:

    Full Moon Spa: http://www.fullmoonspa.com.tw

    Sun Moon Light: http://www.sunmoonlighthotspring.com.tw

Spring Park Urai Spa and Resort: http://www.springparkhotel.com.tw

Hot spring baths can be enjoyed in the day and night. Most of the hot spring resorts do entertain walk-in guests for 1~2 hours private soak.

Shopping malls in Taipei has some similarities to those in Singapore, in my opinion.

How long to spend at Danshui depends on whether you include a visit to the historical sites of Danshui 鈥?Fort San Domingo, Danshui Mackay Hospital, Octagonal Tower, Oxford College etc and also whether you include a visit across the opposite bank to Pali Township for bicycle rides, seafood and snacks. Most people spent about half a day, usually the later part of the day. Shops in Danshui Old Street generally open around 1030~1100 hrs. There is more activity in the late afternoon and evening. The scene at Fishermen%26#39;s Wharf (Lover%26#39;s Bridge) during dusk may be better than daylight, in my opinion. Danshui鈥檚 night market is at Gongming Street (near Danshui MRT Station)

Street map of Danshui MRT Station: home.trtc.com.tw/INFO92/Lmap.asp?SID=071

Thank you! (: I%26#39;ll be going Taipei on 2 Jan to 8 Jan, do you think there will still be strawberries to pick?

    Hi,

    Generally speaking,

strawberry season is from Dec to April.

You should be able to pick strawberry .

    30/Nov ~ 8/Dec Taiwan Trip Report

yes, the whole trip is eat and eat until wife claimed that put on 2Kgs after the trip.

I had selected the hotel all nearby Train Station, easy to access. Before this from the forum people recommend the Takatama Hotel but nobody give the review, this time I make this review and hope other people can understand this hotel if going to Tainan. I like Tainan as it not like a big city and people there is very friendly.

    Thanks :-)

    4 DAYS in Taiwan

    No worries, GlobalCutie.

    Day 2

I wouldn鈥檛 think two half day conducted tours would be tiring. Some forumers had visited these places in a full day using public buses.

Half day Northern Coast Tour (AM)

(Keelung City - Keelung Harbour - Buddha Statue - Yehliu Scenery - Queen%26#39;s Head)

Yehliu is located NW of Keelung city, about 14 km apart. Buddha Statue (Goddess of Mercy 鈥?Kuan Yin) is on a hill top in Keelung city overlooking the nearby Keelung harbour.

Half day Chiufen %26amp; Northeast Coast Tour (PM)

Chiufen Village is located about 14 km SE of Keelung city. Chiufen Village and Pitou Cape are about 11.5 km apart. Nanya and Bay of two colors are located along the 11.5 km route. Pitou Cape is two bus stops away from Nanya. Bay of two colors is about 6 km from Bitou Cape and about 5.5 km from Chiufen Village.

    Enjoy your holidays in Taiwan.

    4 DAYS in Taiwan

    Hi,

If you start your Day 2 tour earlier, one day will be enough.

It depend where you will spend more time on it.

    Regards,

    Tnxs to Calicocat & Ping-i3

Many thanks for your tips on good eats around OneStar Chongquing. I will definetly try out your recommendations on the good eats around the hotel

    Tnxs to Calicocat %26amp; Ping-i3

You%26#39;re very welcome! I forgot to add Nutty%26#39;s oft-recommended Breeze food court on the 2nd floor of Taipei Railway Station. Try the Tainan danzai noodles. (Their counter faces the Burger King counter.)

    Tnxs to Calicocat %26amp; Ping-i3

Will try to eat there too. I am more of a noodle person than a rice person. This is great news to me. Thanks for all your great tips even the ones you posted years before, I find going through your threads and that of TAIwan DIY and Nuttyan very helpful in giving insights how to go about my Taiwan trip. May your tribe increase. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

You are welcome, I learn more from here so try to feedback what I had experienced.

Regarding Breeze food court on the 2nd floor of Taipei Railway Station, yes, plenty of food there, unfortunately too much eating so not able to try some.

Correct, A lot of choice there . That is why when My GF and I go there, we try different items every time. The last trip we had really great Japanese Pork Chop set @NTD210/- Really good.

    鈥hotobucket.com/albums/y97/nuttyazn/OurDinn鈥?/a>

And for your Taiwan Beef Noodle, It is still definitely #15 Taoyuan Street:

    鈥hotobucket.com/albums/y97/nuttyazn/NiuRoMi鈥?/a>

Tainan DanZe Mien is also very delicious as CC Mentioned:

Most famous Taiwan Mien Shen aka O-Ah Mee Suah:

    鈥hotobucket.com/albums/y97/nuttyazn/Taiwan/鈥?/a>

yes, I like the beef noodle very much, everytime I visit Taiwan, I must try the Beef noodle, Taoyuan St and YongKang 鑰佸嫉鐗涜倝楹?are the best (my personal opinion). Haven%26#39;t tried the 娲斧鐖?one very near to Onestar Chongqin, next time definitely will try.

Din Tai Fung serves a decent beef noodle, too. At Emperor Fooods, they will ask you if you want your pork chop served with rice or noodles.

    Enjoy~

    ChingJing accommodation - please comment

Am planning to go to Ching Jing Farm and thinking of staying in this place:

    Notable Vacation Villa. 名人度假村 http://www.notable.com.tw/

Think it looks good and even has spa facilities. But just want to be sure, so would like to know whether anyone has stayed there before. Appreciate any comments. Thanks.

    ChingJing accommodation - please comment

It%26#39;s a bit farther from the action than the other minsu%26#39;s, so be sure to ask about transportation options before deciding on this place. (You%26#39;ll notice that on their website, only driving directions are provided!)

    ChingJing accommodation - please comment

Thanks. Yup, realised that it%26#39;s further to the north but was attracted by the reasonable price given that there is actually a spa facility in the resort. We have actually hired a van so reaching the minsu should not be a problem hopefully. Just want to see if there is any other negative comments before I call them to book.

    Hi,

I stayed opposite the villa in a minsu a couple of weeks ago and really liked the whole serene and quiet atmosphere in Ching Jing area. As the minsu I was staying in do not cook breakfast, we were asked to go over to Notable Villa to eat. It looks like a decent place and there were quite a few tour buses too. Although its a bit far from Ching Jing farm itself, the air was really fresh and cooling. Best of all, the Taichung to Ching Jing bus stops right in front of the villa. :)

    Hi,

For my recent nov trip to chingjing, i stayed at 2 places.

One is http://starry.nantou.com.tw - this Starry minsu is up on the top at chingjing. From there, i can have a full view of chingjing and during my stay, i saw a lot of sea clouds. The owners are very hospitality. They provide free pickups to/from nearby chingjing areas. I think this%26#39;s impt as i%26#39;m not driving. You can ask them to plan your itinerary in chingjing. For overseas tourists, they offer free steamboat - very delicious and big portion of ingredients. I went up to Hehuan san for half day tour - a must see.

The other place that i stay is energy vacation. I can walk to the nearby 7-11, starbucks. The receptionist recommended us a walk path route. The scenary was very beautiful. I saw another minsu next to energy vacation and i think i would recommend to stay at this minsu: 香格里拉空中花園 http://www.shangrila-resort.com.tw/intro.htm. The decor in the minsu is very nice. I walked into the minsu and take photos.

Are you staying 2 nights in chingjing ? Otherwise, you will not have enough time to enjoy the nice scenary there. Also check out the sheep shows during wkend. That day was raining so the show was cancelled. What%26#39;s a pity !

Hi limkopi, thanks for the notes. Can I ask another thing, how was the breakfast there at notable? Was it buffet style, western/chinese? Seems like it%26#39;s a very convenient place (with bus from taichung), and also they cater for big tour groups (in tour buses). But am concern whether it would turn out to be a very crowded place. Were there a lot of people when you were there for breakfast?

Hi sflow, thanks for your recommendations too. Was considering Energy Vacation too, except that it%26#39;s a little pricey compared to others. Am looking out for promotions. I would be staying at Chingjing only for 1 night. Will try to be there around 1-2pm, stay 1 night and leave for Hualien around noon time.

    Hi Sflow,

May I know how much did you pay for the half day tour to Hehuan san and how long does it take from Chingjing?

We were in Chingjing on 27th Nov, Thursday. They had the sheep show at 2.30pm.

We liked the place so much and intended to revisit next year.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Hehuan san was about 1 hr or less from chingjing. (cant remember exactly) However, the journey up to the mountain was very beautiful. The minsu charges us at a rate of 1500 twn$. It will be more ex if u engage a cab (2000-2500) cos i only got 2 pax. Also happen that the minsu boss was available to bring us up the hehuan san.

    Hi Sflow,

Any photos to share with us?

    Thanks!

    HI,

The breakfast is buffet style with porridge and a few side dishes, very much like what most Taiwan hotels will provide. The breakfast area was half-filled when I was there but I do not know how many guests they have exactly.

As for the public transport, you need to change bus at Puli from Taichung before you can get to ChingJing.

Taichung to Puli buses are very frequent, one every 20 min.

However, the bus from Puli to Ching Jing is about once every 2 hours or so. Therefore you need to plan your connecting time properly so as not to spend too much idling time in Puli.

    Rgds.

    Sky Lantern around shifen

    Hi All,

will be doing a day trip to jiufen, shifen, nanya and would like to know if there are any shops that sells sky lantern. Would like to release one. Pl advise.

    Sky Lantern around shifen

You can release sky lanterns at any time (day and night) and on any day of the year along the Pingsi branch line in the villages of Shifen, Pingsi or Jing-tong. Stalls selling sky lanterns (usual price NT$100 each) open around 1030~1100 hrs till 2100~2130 hrs. The stallholder can assist you to fix the kerosene-soaked incense paper to the lantern before lighting up and releasing it into the sky in any open area near the stall.

    New Year's Eve in Taipei

Is Shifen waterfall still closed or open for visit?

i will be visiting Shifen on the 30th november so i want to know whether is it open or closed??

Is Shifen waterfall still closed or open for visit?

hi any updates on whether Shifen is open or not?

I had tot of visiting Shifen before Juifen. But looking at the tight timing for Pingxi Line, I may skip Jiufen since i have been there twice.

Is Shifen worth going without the waterfall and is it the most interesting station along the line?

Is Shifen waterfall still closed or open for visit?

Dunno if it is open but I do know the local government and the private owner is currently negotiating the compensation amount so as to make Shifen waterfall a public attraction, rather than a private one.

Getting to Yushan Nat. Park / Dongpu

Am trying to figure out the multiple stages needed to get from Tainan to Dongpu near Yushan NP. I do not have my own transport. One of my guides says I need to take a train to Erhui, switch to the Ji Ji line (Chi-chi on the Taiwan Railway Website), get off at Shuili, then take a bus to Dongpu. However, the only thing I can find schedules for on the Taiwan Railway website is for Tainan to Erhui. I can%26#39;t seem to get any schedule from there (or anywhere) to Shuili. I know there are regularly scheduled busses from Shuili to Dongpu, but also would like to see how those schedules fit the rest of it. Any help?

Not dying to see Dongpu. Started looking at Yushan, thought a few days in the mountains (and maybe even some snow) would be nice. Dongpu came up while looking for hotels near Yushan. Open to alternatives that get me fairly high up, and far(ther) from bigger cities for a few days at the end of this month. Thanks in advance for any pointers or hints about how to make sure that one leg of the journey fits the others so I end up in Dongpu in one day, not stranded somewhere in between Tainan and Dongpu. Thanks DIYtaiwan. I%26#39;ve seen your posts on a LOT of threads here. You must live to give directions to folks.

I found the problem with your help regarding searching trains to Shuili. Hadn%26#39;t clicked ';any train'; or ';all trains'; and so since the default is ';express trains'; and the Chi Chi line is not an express line, couldn%26#39;t find anything before. Sorted out now.

I booked tickets for most of our journey. I still could not get tix for any of the Shuili legs of the journey. There is no Shuili station code on the list of station codes. This is strange, because it will let me search for trains from Tiachung to Shuili, and site doesn%26#39;t have a problem delivering several options daily... but can%26#39;t figure out how to book train to and from Shuili without a station code. I will not worry about it for now. Will try to sort it out when I pick up tix on Sunday in Taipei. Just an odd problem I don%26#39;t see a way around. Tried calling the reservation numbers from the website, but got hooked through to the Telecom services somehow. Skyping from Hong Kong, so perhaps something wrong with my number entry... again, just going to deal with it in country when we arrive. Thanks again for the help. DKR

    Hi dreiley2,

Just to for your info, Dongpu is a little village within the Yushan national park. It altitude is not high. I can say it belongs to the low range, say less than 1000m. If i remember correctly, it is about maybe 800m only. The buses from Shuili to Dongpu are limited. And if your timing is unable to fit the schedule, be prepared to pay alot more for taxis to Dongpu. If you have make arrangements for lodging at Dongpu, you can ask if the hotel/inns there are willing to provide pickup from Shuili for a fee. Some hotel owners are friendly and can help you to make arrangements. DongPu, i dont think you can see snow at that altitude. If you want to go for high altittude within the civilization of hotels, Chingjing would be a better choice. Being a favourite weekend getaways for locals from the cities, you can have many choices for accomodations. And at the correct season, you may actually see snow at HeHuanshan which is near Chingjing.

    Hi dreiley2,

The reason why you are unable to find Shueili station code in the booking website is because reservation / booking of Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA) train tickets is only for rides on Tze Chiang (Taroko), Tze Chiang, Chu Kuang or Fu Hsing trains. As the train ride from Taichung to Shueili is only served by DRC trains, there is no booking of train tickets.

DRC (Diesel Rail Car) = 區间車 or sometimes referred to as Electric Multiple Unit are also known as Local trains. These are commuter trains that stop at almost every station.

There are still nice buses that you can take from Taichung to Shuili. Since those trains from Taichung to Shuiling are local trains, dont think you need to book in advance. But do check the bus schedules from Shuili to Dongpu. Unless you are planning to stay a night at Shuili. Accomodations can Shuili can be shabby.
