Day trip to Taroko; feasible?

Is a self-day trip to Taroko Gorge from Taipei feasible? Wondering if it will be too rushed.

Do organised trips from Taipei to Taroko cover a good portion of the main attractions?

Day trip to Taroko; feasible?

Hi,

One day trip is a little bit rushed, but feasible.

If you would like to go by train, you could take a train which starts around 8:00 in the morning in Taipei.

You will get the Hua-Lian around 10:30, then you can go the Taroko.

Hope this help.

Day trip to Taroko; feasible?

Feasible, but not recommended because it is quite tiring.

If you can get a ticket on the morning 1091 Taroko train, you will be in Hualien around 10 a.m. Join a local group tour or take the city bus will get you into the park at around 11. Leave the park by sundown, and you should be able to catch the 1096 Taroko train, which will return you to Taipei by 9:45 p.m.

Organised trips cover about 2/3 of the major attractions; some notable omissions include the water cave and the numerous hiking trails. You will not have much time to explore the park on your own since the bus stops only briefly at each attraction, and do be prepared to spend at least an hour or more at the souvenir shops (after all, this is how the group tour operators make their profit, through commissions).

Feasible and you don%26#39;t have to get a place to stay over night. We had a tour from Taipei to Taroko last summer and we stay in Tienshiang for the night. Some people from the group did only one-day tour and they returned to Taipei the same day. The tour did cover the majority of the attractions in the park. There was no time to hike the Biyang trail, however, the trail the tour guide suggested we did not go because we were tired and the weather was very humid in June.

Don%26#39;t miss the Taroko. If time is an issue, then one day trip is better than not going at all.

Hi. My family and I just came back from a 6-day trip. We stayed in Hualien from 2 nights. I actually recommend you to stay 1 or 2 nights there. The train from taipei takes about 2 hours( if you are taking the express type) and about 3 hours (if you are taking the mormal type).

It is feasible though if you just one to go there for 1 day. You can get the earliest express train ticket. It should leave the Taipei main station at around 8.00am and you will reach hualien at 10.00am. From the hualien train station, you can take a cab to the bus terminal.

There are 2 choices for the trip up to Taroko.

1. Buy a ticket for the bus tour. About NT$850 per person. The bus will take you around Taroko and stop at certain areas for you to enjoy.

2. Take a cab. (we chose this). We initially had the intention of taking the organised bus tour but when we reached the bus terminal, a taxi driver told us that taking a cab would be better. He charged us at NTS500 per person. We decided to take the cab. SO he took us to many places, some where the bus did not stop and allowed us to take our time. He was very informative and ensure that we know where we are. It was like having a personal guide which made the trip to Taroko a very pleasant one.

Its up to you to choose which route you one as the bus tours are not bad too. Just remember to be careful at the bus terminal. There could be some touting so just beware, dont take those cabs. (Our taxi driver did not do that.) If you one to stay there for a night or so, i recommend Azure Hotel where they have organised trips to Taroko too.

Hope you enjoy your trip! :)
