Chiayi to SunMoonLake

I would like to know how can I travel from Chiayi (coming down from Alishan) to SML???

1. Is there any train or bus service that link up directly?

2. How long is the travel distance? It%26#39;ll be a day trip at SML from Chaiyi then head back to TPE..

3. I heard that after the 921 earthquake, the lake is no longer as beatuiful.. Should i purposely make a trip down.. :p ?
