Erm hi ppl,

Anyone know how to get to Sun Moon Lake?

I know its on the top of the mountain but if i take cab up, how am i going to get down from it ?

And also anyone knows how long is the jouney and how much if taking cab ?

Is there any particular reason why you want to take a cab? Just asking because the easiest way to get to SML from Taipei is to take Guo-Guang bus, which offers daily direct service.

Ride time is about 4.5 hours. Cost is 480 adult, 285 children.

From Taipei to SML, bus leaves daily at 8, 9 and 10 in the morning, and 3 and 5 in the afternoon.

From SML back to Taipei, bus leaves at 7:20, 8:20, and 9:20 in the morning, and 1:20, 2:20, and 4:20 in the afternoon.

I would love to go to SML too but I only have about 4~5 days in Taipei (This is my 3rd visit to Taipei) so I don%26#39;t mind going out of Taipei for a day or 2.

I don%26#39;t quite like the 4 hrs bus ride so was thinking if there is any other option?

Take HSR to Taichung? Then if I stay at Lalu (or is there any other cheaper but 3~4 star hotel?) can i get a cab from Taichung HSR to the hotel?

Is SML walkable from Lalu or from any hotel?

In addition to the Lalu, you can also try Hotel Del Lago (http://www.dellago.com.tw), and hotel Fleur De Chine (http://www.fleurdechinehotel.com). Both are 4 star properties, located on the shores of the lake, and within minutes from the marina and main street. While not as luxurious as the Lalu, these hotels are more convenient for tourists in my opinion.

The only way to beat the King-Bus direct service is to take the HSR followed by a private cab ride up the mountains. The whole trip will take around 3 hours, so you do save an hour and a half; but it will be substantially more expensive.

Looks like I have to take the 4.5hr bus to SML for the sake of saving money! :)

btw, I just realise Lalu and the others hotels are very expensive!!!
