China Airlines

Hi,

I would really like to visit Taipei. However, all the air tickets from SG is pretty expensive. Since it is a long journey, I try to avoid budget airlines.

The cheapest I can find is China Airlines. I fly with them once and that%26#39;s it. My impression of them is they are a frequent accidents and poor service.

However, to be fair, that is about 10 years ago. I would like to know how is their service and your flight experience with them now. It%26#39;s been quite sometime that I last heard about any accident about them.

Thanks in advance.

China Airlines

I like its service and price, but hate its name and records.

China Airlines

I think they%26#39;ve improved in the past 10 years. I flew with them in 2008 to TPE as well as Jakarta and HKG and everything went smoothly with service and no delays.

My original flight from TPE-HKG was cancelled and the airline gave notice to my travel agent who emailed me and booked me on an earlier flight.

My only complaint would be my trans-Pacific flights didn%26#39;t have personal seat audio/video screens.

I like our China Airline 747-400 Lax-TPE flight last year. It had personal audio and TV screen. The service was great.

They did have a close call a couple years ago in Okinawa, when the plane burst into flames after landing. The cause of accident is still under investigation, but early indication points to a design defect with the plane (which prompted Boeing to issue an emergency protocol to all 737-800 users).

Hi All,

Thanks for all your replies. I feel better now with CA.

Does anyone knows is there any personal in-flight entertainment for the flight between SG and TPE?

Thanks.

It depends, China Airline typically operates A330 for this route, and all CI A330 are equipped with personal video systems.

But every now and then, CI may fly the route with a repositioning 737-800 or 747-400. The 737s are not equipped with PTV, and only 747s numbered 18610 or higher has PTV.

Thankfully, the odds of a repositioning flight is quite rare (about 1 in 10), so I think you should be safe.

Try Cathay Pacific. Much cheaper than SIA but transit in HK.

Hi,

I have considered CX before but the time taken is too long.

Thanks for your suggestion though. :)

How about SQ? I planned to take by SQ for my coming trip to tw as now got promotion...

SQ for 2 will down me by S$1630. That is too ex for me.

On second thoughts, I am seriously considering CX now as recommended by a TA user. Using CX, it cost less then S$1200 though the downside is to stretch the journey by more than 2 hours on each flight. That is a savings of about S$480 which can heavily subsidize my hotel there.

I would like to help our national carrier too. But with their irrational fuel charges, I have no choice but to choose another airline.
