Frm Taichung(SML) to Chiayi (Alishan)

Dear all!

I need help! Here%26#39;s my itinerary.

Frm Taipei, take HSR to Tai Chung.

Take Nan tou bus to SML.

Frm SML, take Nan tou bus to Tai Chung city and stay over at a hotel for the night. (Any good recommendation for budget hotel, which is near to TSR?)

Visit Feng Jia night market. (Is it worth visiting? Is it like Shilin night market?)

Next morning, frm Tai Chung, should I take HSR or TSR to Chia Yi??? Which is the earliest transport I can take to Chia Yi? Is taking cab expensive, if I cant catch the train or bus??

After reading many forums, I%26#39;m quite confused. After getting to Chia Yi, how to get from Chiayi to Alishan??

Is it possible to visit Alishan in half a day? Cos I intend to head to Zuo Ying (Kaoshiung) to stay for 2 nights, after Alishan.

Pls advice!!!

Frm Taichung(SML) to Chiayi (Alishan)

Zaw-Jung Business Hotel (good budget hotel recommended by some forumers)

100, Fu-Hsin Road, Sec. 5, Taichung City (not near Taichung HSR Station)

Right across the street from rear entrance of Taichung Railway Station.

Feng Jia night market is a popular night market in Taichung city, so is Shilin night market in Taipei city.

From Taichung city, I suggest you take the railway trains direct to Chiayi Railway Station for transfer to forest rail train or bus to Alishan. To board the HSR trains, you would need two shuttle bus transfers between the respective downtowns and HSR Stations. The earliest railway train Tze Chiang #2051 departs Taichung Railway Station at 0614 hrs and arrives Chiayi at 0733 hrs. You need to time your arrival in Chiayi for connection in good time to Alishan by forest train or bus.

Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA): http://163.29.3.98/TWRail_En/index.aspx

Taking cabs would be expensive.

From Chiayi %26gt; Alishan

Uphill by forest rail trains:

Weekdays – The only train departs Chiayi Railway Station at 1330 hrs for Alishan Station

Saturdays and Sundays – Trains depart Chiayi Railway Station at 0900 hrs and 1330 hrs for Alishan Station.

Uphill by bus:

Buses depart Chiayi Bus Station (on right side of Chiayi Railway Station) at 0610, 0810, 1210 and 1410 hrs for Alishan. Fare: NT$214 Travel time: About 2.5 hrs. There is an extra bus at 1010 hrs on Sat, Sun and public holidays only and makes a stop at Fenchihu before proceeding to Alishan.

Chiayi Bus website: http://citybus.cyhg.gov.tw/linemap/b24.htm

Most travelers stay a night in Alishan. Early the next morning, most of them board a train to Chushan observation deck to see the beautiful sunrise and sea of clouds (depending on weather conditions). Explore Alishan National Forest Recreation Area before room check-out.
