Budget Accomodation for 1 night

Hi, wonder if anyone has any recommendations for a budget accomodation for one night at Kaohsiung? We%26#39;re going there for countdown and will need to stay over for a night. It was a last minute decision so we called up a few names but all fully booked for 31st Dec

Will appreciate if anyone has ideas to share on alternative budget hotels or hostels for 2. Preferably below 1500NT Thanks!

Can know do Dihua street worth a visit? As understand it will be super busy during CNY season, but now if I visit in April, will the streets stalls still be opened?

And can know, do they open in the daytime or night time like the night markets?

It opens up after 10.30am but is a little more active in the Evenings , however there is nothing much there when it is not ';seasonal'; i.e. not many stalls.

I think Zhongshan Metro Mall is the most boring of all the underground malls, so you should instead head for the shopping outside MRT Zhongshan Station or the 3 underground malls at Taipei Station. Zhongshan Metro Mall is good for walking between MRT Zhongshan Station and Taipei Main Station, though.

And where can I go when I reach the west end of Taipei City Mall?

Once you reach the end you can turn back and walk down the OTHER corridor. (City Mall has two parallel corridors: shops / corridor / shops / corridor / shops) Then when you get to North Brown Exit 7 (right-hand corridor when heading west), go up to Hochezhan. City Mall is much more interesting than Station Front Metro Mall.

Dihua Street gets ready for annual Lunar New Year dried foods festival

Shop owners on Taipei’s Dihua Street (迪化街), well-known for Lunar New Year shopping, intend to begin their annual shopping festival on Jan. 9.

Vendors there said they were expecting to hire 500 temporary workers in anticipation of rising consumer spending driven by the government’s shopping voucher scheme.

The New Year Big Street Festival (年貨大街) will run for 17 days until noon on Jan. 25 — Lunar New Year’s Eve — and is expecting to attract 170 shopkeepers and 250 vendors, the Chinese-language Apple Daily (蘋果日報) reported yesterday.

10 Things We Enjoyed in Taiwan

We enjoyed many things but these were our favourites. In no particular order:

1. Night markets - we went to Shihlin four times!

2. Taoyuan Jie beef noodles - best!

3. Mr Meeky Yang - very patient and good company too.

4. Shin Yeh - the stirfried liver and the bitter gourd dish were excellent

5. TS Hotel - very convenient location and such friendly staff

6. Small shopping centres and Wufenpu - not the big shopping centres which are similar to those in Singapore

7. Tea at the Red Theatre

8. Spring Park Urai - lovely experience, if budget is not an issue

9. Leader Village Taroko - a unique experience for city bumpkins like us

10. Taroko Gorge - wonderful scenery

FYI, we spent 15 days in Taipei and Taroko Gorge.

Which SHIN Yeh did you visit? I too like the liver with coriander and shredded ginger the way they prepare it. It tastes different in Singapore because the pork here especially from the black pigs taste considerablly better.

Oh yes, I always select black-haired pig pork when grocery shopping if there%26#39;s a choice. It doesn%26#39;t have the ';porky'; taste of white pork.

We went to the Shin Yeh at Zhongxiao E Rd Sect 4. Yeah, I don%26#39;t know if it%26#39;s the type of pig or the chef%26#39;s control of the fire but the liver was so tender. The other ';porky'; thing that was different was the pig intestines in the Ay Chung Mian Xian. We normally don%26#39;t eat intestines in Singapore but these didn%26#39;t smell bad at all and were nice and QQ.

One last thing: we preferred Shiziting to Ya Rou Bian too. Ya Rou Bian%26#39;s duck is actually more ';high class'; than Shiziting%26#39;s, but for overall quality, including the soup stock for the noodles, we preferred Shiziting :P

Bus from Chiayi railway station to Hualien Train Station

WOuld anyone advise on is there a bus from Chiayi to Hualien? Please advise on where to find the nbus terminal.

Sad to say, I don%26#39;t think there is such a bus service. When I was planning my trip, I thought that route would be the shortest but central Taiwan is very mountainous, almost impossible to pass through directly.

If you really want to take this route, it will be about 7 to 8 hours of driving.

Just to share, I took public buses to Ching Jing, visited the farm, spent a night there before taking a cab to Hualien the next day.

Bus terminals are located on both sides of the Chiayi train station.

There is no direct bus link between Chiayi and Hualien. Fastest way to hualien is to take the THSR to Taipei, followed by a 2 hour ride on the Taroko express. Total trip time is about 4 to 5 hours.

Or you can take the Tze-Chiang train down south, and transfer to another train either at Taitung or Kaohsiung. This route is more scenic, and you get to see more of rural Taiwan, but it takes about 7 to 8 hours.

Hi, me %26amp; my family is planning to go over taipei for hoilday during this coming chinese lunar new year.

however, we are afraid that the shoppings %26amp; night markets like ';shi lin night market, jifen, xi meng ding...etc will be closed for hoilday.

does anyone knows when will all the shop normally resume back to work after the chinese lunar new year?

I don%26#39;t live in Taipei now, but from my past experience, shops in those areas you mentioned close early on the Chinese New Year%26#39;s Eve and open late, probably only in the afternonn on the first day of the Chinese New Years. They don%26#39;t close actually.
